My partner and I went vegan about five and a half years ago for health reasons (the results have been incredible), but shortly afterwards, we experienced a major shift in consciousness about the animals and the planet. I was inspired to write my novel CINNAMON, a dairy cow's (and her farmer's) path to freedom (Adelaide Books) by a dairy cow we knew and eventually rescued so that she could live out her remaining years at a sanctuary. One of the most amazing things about becoming vegan is my connection to the animals.
Recently, on my journey, I connected with someone at the Catskill Animal Sanctuary, which has the tag line "love spoken here," and I wanted to share these images with you. In reflecting on how being an ethical vegan has become a way of life, one word keeps coming to mind: empathy.

From the Catskill Animal Sanctuary site:
Each April, Earth Day invites us to pause and reflect on the future of our shared home. But at Catskill Animal Sanctuary (CAS), our commitment to the planet doesn’t end when the calendar turns. Every rescued animal, every compassionate meal, and every act of advocacy speaks to a broader truth: that our treatment of animals is directly tied to the health of our environment. In this moment of deepening climate crisis, understanding that link is no longer optional. It is essential.
