Since we're in LGBTQ history month, I have decided to post a short excerpt from my novel THEY, a biblical tale of secret genders (Adelaide Books, New York and Lisbon). After all, our history goes back quite a long time. This excerpt has to do with a popular Bible story--Joseph's Coat of Many Colors--as heard at the village well. I recorded this brief excerpt below and under that is the text.
Judith rolled her eyes. "I like being part of public life. What I don't find out from my husband, I find out from Jacob and Samuel at the village well. In fact, I learn more from Samuel and Jacob than I do from my husband, Bram. Joseph was the late-in-life son of Israel and Judith. His line descends from Abraham. His father had a fancy coat made for Joseph. It was a very expensive coat -- beautiful, too, with many colors woven into the fabric. When his brothers saw the coat and found out it was from his father, they were jealous."
Tamar was skeptical. She had heard this story -- or at least part of it. Who hadn't? But even
when it was first news, she hadn't really paid much attention. It didn't have anything to do with her.
