"Just Married" --Loving Artemis, an endearing tale of love, revolution and marriage in Jae's 2025 Sapphic Book Bingo #amreading #LGBTQ #LesFic

My novel Loving Artemis, an endearing tale of love, revolution, and marriage (Thorned Heart Press) was featured by Jae this week in her Sapphic Book Bingo 2025 under her category of main characters who ride a motorcycle. This led me to post the ending of the novel. Enjoy!

At long last, Art and Linda had been together for thirty-two

years when they were married in a small ceremony in the office of the

Unitarian Church that they attended when they could. Their daughter

Clio came along with some of friends from work. Art found the gold ring

her Yiayia (the Greek word for grandmother) had given her, and she wore

it on a slim leather chord around her neck. She and Linda exchanged the

matching silver bands they had picked out. Linda's had a small emerald

set in hers to match her pendant that Art had given her when they were teens.

In their hearts, they had always been married. Art was surprised at how good

it felt to finally be able to make it legal. All they had was a simple ceremony

and a legal certificate, but Art felt like she had hit the Powerball. The odds

might be one in a million, but they had done it. When she had wished upon a star

all those years ago, some small part of her must have known that her

wish would come true.

Art rode her bike slowly down Fifth Avenue onto Broadway past the Flat Iron

Building to the winding streets of the Village where people stood on the sidewalks,

leaned out windows, and sat on fire escapes, their legs swinging. Rainbow flags were everywhere. Balloons rose into the air. Confetti rained down.

Then Art saw her, the one woman in the crowd she was looking for: Linda. She had

been having brunch in the Village with Clio and some friends on Christopher Street,

just past Waverly Place. Art spotted Linda on the sidewalk, waiting. Art could see the sign hung on a string around her neck. She rode closer. Linda's handwriting, in deep purple letters, read:

"Just Married."
