"Leather! What was I thinking? I could be wearing the hide of her cousin!" -- Cinnamon excerpted (the farmer #wakesup) #govegan #animalrights #amreading

This week, I thought I'd post a brief excerpt (a paragraph) from my novel CINNAMON, a dairy cow's (and her farmer's) path to freedom (Adelaide Books -- New York/Lisbon) that I read as part of my Vegan Spirituality Group on Meetup.com. You can view the excerpt below on YouTube or read the text below that. The paragraph is from the beginning of the novel and written from the point of view of the female farmer who is going through a consciousness-raising about her cows, which eventually leads her to create a sanctuary on her small family farm that has been passed down through the generations. Enjoy!
The look the cow gave me was cold and hard. Her eyes narrowed and
became glassy. The air between us seemed to crackle. She didn’t need to
speak to tell me she felt betrayed. She had made her feelings known. At
first, I thought I was imagining things. I immediately felt guilty. I thought
about the fact that she was brown, and my purse was brown. But her fur
was brown, and my purse was leather. Leather! What was I thinking? I
could be wearing the hide of her cousin!
