Loving Artemis revisited and Pride -- #Prideiseveryday #LGBTQ #amreading

I decided to post this brief excerpt from my novel Loving Artemis, an endearing tale of revolution, love, and marriage (from Thorned Heart Press) in honor of Pride Month. But I go to thinking that in my book (or books), Pride is every month. In this excerpt, my character Grace is taking the bus to the shopping mall in the 1970s when she is an adolescent and falls asleep dreaming about Art, a girl she knows from high school.

The bus vibrated under her. She could feel the wheels turning.

Warmth spread from her abdomen to her groin. She wondered how

dating a girl would be. It had to be different from dating a boy. There

wouldn't be any games to play for one thing. She wouldn't have to

worry about someone bragging about "scoring” with her. She had

never had sex with a boy. If she had sex with Art, she wouldn't have

to worry about getting pregnant.

Grace drifted off. In her dream, she was standing on a cliff. There

was someone in front of her, standing next to the ledge, with her

back to her. She was dressed in a leather jacket and straight-legged

jeans. From the back, the person looked like a boy. But then a girl

turned around and smiled at Grace.

It was Art.

"I knew you'd come," Art said.

Grace held out her hand.

"It's time," said Art, taking her hand.

They flew off the cliff together. Grace soared up into the air like

Wonder Woman. They orbited a cloud. A ribbon of purple smoke

wrapped around them. She could see the blue sky through the transparent

smoke. She could feel the ribbon of smoke holding them together.
