Recently, I've been exploring the relationship between consciousness and physics. That is, I thought I was learning about consciousness. When I came across a paragraph from my novel CINNAMON, a dairy cow's (and her farmer's) path to freedom (Adelaide Books -- New York & Lisbon), that I picked out for my vegan spirituality group, I realized that consciousness has been with me all along.
This brief excerpt from CINNAMON is recorded below on YouTube. The text is pasted below that.
I thought of changing awareness. Wasn’t that change, too? The cows
seemed to be more aware of our predicaments. There was more eye
rolling and more grumbling. Maybe communication between cows and
humans could change. It seemed that Sunflower had understood me that
day when I got her to let me out of the pasture. I got the impression that
I had directed her behavior with my thoughts – even if she was acting
crazy and looking at the sky. Maybe if I could keep her responding to
my thoughts, then her awareness could change also.
Maybe if I could get her to understand me, then she could change
things before Spice and I were sent away. I knew it was a long shot, but
I had to try. I had to imagine a future where the trucks no longer came
for us.
