What do Ishtar, the Bible, and Intersex Twins have to do with #LGBTHistory? Everything, a brief excerpt of THEY #amreading

In honor of October being LGBTQ+ history month, I've decided to post a brief excerpt from my novel THEY, a biblical tale of secret genders that involves the Bible, intersex twins, the Goddess Ishtar, and a story.

After being harassed online for my novel THEY, a biblical tale of secret genders (published by Adelaide Books--New York and Lisbon--in 2018), I made a commitment to myself to keep getting the word out about THEY because the harassment said to me that the novel is still needed. A brief excerpt from the novel is posted below, and the text is posted below that. The excerpt is from the point of view of the narrator Tamar, who is present as her sister gives birth to twins, babies who are both born intersexed. The text is pasted below the YouTube video of me reading.

"So this is what the Goddess Ishtar looks like." Tabitha held the bas-relief on her lap so that it

faced the children.

"She's NAKED!" exclaimed Zerah. “Just like in the story. And she's really pretty. She looks

just like you Mama -- when you wash -- except her breasts are bigger."

"And you don't have wings," chimed in Pharez. "Wait a minute. Where's her penis?"

"Silly, goddesses don't have penises!" Zerah smiled triumphantly.

"But WE do. We have boy parts and girl parts," pointed out Pharez.

"Are we going to grow breasts?" asked Zerah. "Will they be as beautiful as Ishtar's?"

"What about wings?" Pharez hopped up and down.

CINNAMON is also available through your local bookstore and library

(just ask them to order it if they don’t have it).
