I occasionally do book reviews and thought I would share this one of the story "The Romance Bet" by the lesbian author who goes by Jae. The review is below, recorded for Book Tube, and the text is below that.
I was delighted to find that, now and then, you can read a piece of fiction that completely changes your perception. That was my experience when I read the short story titled “The Romance Bet” by the lesbian author who goes by Jae.In this story, a female reporter (named Abby) who has never cared for the genre of romance writing, interviews a well-known romance writer named Tamara, who picks up on Abby’s disdain.Tamara reads Abby’s thoughts that romance writing is easy and that anyone can do it and ends up challenging her to a bet to write a romance novel. Abby, who loves a challenge, accepts. Before long, the two women start connecting on FaceTime, initially talking about their writing but then also talking about their personal lives.As Jae writes:Before Abby could think of an answer, another message from Tamara arrived.Have you ever even read a romance novel?Does Pride and Prejudice count? Abby replied.I love Pride and Prejudice, but I meant something more contemporary. Maybe you should give it a try.That’s exactly how I feel about the writer Jae. If you haven’t read her already, chances are that you will be delighted.
